SMART Material Control™ for Critical Substation Modernization
OnTraxSys Role:
SMART Material Control™ for Critical Substation Modernization
OnTraxSys supported the Customer’s grid modernization and resiliency initiative by managing complex, multi-phase material flows tied to substation upgrade projects serving transmission and distribution needs. Our role included oversight of high-value components such as switchgear, relay panels, transformers, grounding systems, and SCADA interface kits.
Execution Highlights:
- Conducted detailed QA/QC inspection and reconciliation for over 1,200 critical assets across 7 substations, including materials with long lead times or sensitive handling requirements.
- Developed project-specific material kitting plans aligned to commissioning schedules, reducing field-level inventory search time by over ~20%.
- Recovered, inspected, and re-integrated $1.2M in surplus material from prior Customer jobsites using our controlled issuance and return-to-stock system.
- Maintained >99.1% BOM alignment accuracy through daily reconciliation reporting.
- Reduced late or misrouted deliveries by over 10%, mitigating schedule risk during outage windows.
- Implemented just-in-time material drops and contractor-ready packaging, minimizing laydown congestion at constrained substations.
Measured Impact:
- $1.2M in cost avoidance savings through surplus recovery and reallocation.
- Improved contractor productivity via phase-based kitting and clear chain-of-custody.
- Prevented reorders and avoided installation delays, especially for time-sensitive transformer and switchgear installs.
